Tenses in English

 


In English, there are three main types of
tenses. They are-

1)  Present Tense

2)  Past Tense

3)  Future Tense

 

    There are four sub-types of
tenses in English-

1)    Simple Tense

2)   Progressive /Continuous Tense

3)  Perfect Tense

4)  Perfect Progressive/Continuous Tense

 

Thus, there are twelve tenses total in
number in English. They are-

1)    Simple
Present Tense

2)    Continuous
Present Tense

3)    Perfect Present
Tense

4)    Perfect
Continuous Present Tense

 

5)    Simple
Past Tense

6)    Continuous
Past Tense

7)    Perfect
Past Tense

8)    Perfect
Continuous Past Tense

9)      Simple
Future Tense

10)   Continuous Future Tense

Verb Forms:
There are five forms
of verb.
1)  Base Form e.g. Write

2)  -S Form e.g.
writes

3)  -ing Form
e.g. writing

4)  Past Form/ed1
e.g. Wrote

5)  Past
Participle/ed2 e.g. Written
